Printing white on black material using iron on transfer

Hi! I?m sorry if this has been asked several times (and therefore answered several times!) but I want to print an image of the Union Jack flag on a black tshirt using an iron on transfer for dark material. I?m assuming that the printer won?t print the white parts of the flag, so is there an easy way to get around this? Thanks in advance

The white is typically going to be the transfer material...just without print in that area. Think of it just like printing on white paper...the paper is your white.
Thank you! That makes sense. So I should be fine then ?

yes and you may want to trim down the transfer after printing to be sure there is no "extra" white around the sides unless you want that as part of the design.
Thank you so much for your help :)

No problem, good luck!!
Or maybe cut the white portions (using a plotter/cutter of course!) out of a sheet of white HTV and then mate it all together? More labor-intensive, but it might work.

Expressions Vinyl has this nice video how-to.
