Yep it can be done and can be a cool effect. Mix the ink a bit lighter to adjust the desired contrast.
Printing red on red
I have a design for a screenprint where I'm using a black T-shirt and one layer of the print is text which I want in a slightly different shade of black, a bit lighter.
The effect I'm after is for the text not to be obvously visible as text from a distance, but if you step closer and take a good look you are able to read it.
To give you an idea, here's an image where they've done that, though obviously not screenprinted, here it's woven into the fabric.

My question is simply how well this will work out?
Can it be done?
