printing over collars, seams

Hi, researching in to buying a DTG and I am wondering which printers can print over seems and on collars for all over shirt designs. I noticed that with these machines the shirt is centered on the platen and then folded under but is there a way to just lay the shirt wherever you would like to print? Any help would be greatly appreciated:)

All over prints are definately possible but here are some of the issues.

1. Your print surface should be uniform height from the print head to make sure some areas aren't blurry. You will have to create something on the platen to make the seams and collar the same level as the rest of the shirt. If you hit the garment with some print heads they are ruined and expensive to replace.

2. All over prints can be huge so make sure you get a printer with big enough print area. T-Jet Blazer pros can print roughly 17in X 54in, which is one of the bigger printers. Not quite enough for an all over print of the larger sizes.

Hope this helps.

Any of the machines can do this. Because you have to move the platen further away from the shirt, you take a little hit on the "sharpness" of the print. If you build a jig so that higher and lower parts of the substrate are evened out this will help.

lets say you want to print around the collar, is it ok to have some of the platen showing and then just wipe off if it gets ink on it?

I place a piece of paper in the collar area.
