Well, I've always used an Epson 3000 with Posjet films. Black was always DARK BLACK. OK.

Now, our 3000 has a bandwith and we decided to purchase a Epson 1400. We print a film and we see black is very light. We do use Accurip software. We've been said to increase the density of ink with the software. Now is a little more black. But we can see lot of clear lines from side to side (inside of spot color). We've been said Epson 3000 ink is very very dense and black, and 1400 ik is more lighter.

Problem is we try to isolate a scren with a film printed on 1400 and almost nothing happens. It doesn't reveal correctly the image.

So we think we must change exposure times.

It is usual??? The light black ink on Epson 1400.....

I'm switching from the 3000 to the 1400 because my 3000 is getting really old.I'm using FASTRip... I have Accurip for the 1400 also...but I'm also getting the black max inks from Ryonet. That along with Ryonets waterproof film I feel is the best positive maker out there for small to medium sized shops.
Get the Black Max inks and change the setting in Accurip to fire all inks and they will be darker than your 3000 ever was !!!

Yep, get the six cartrige all black inks... under printer setting ... advanced... "Ultra premium photo paper glossy", photo RPM, uncheck "high speed",check "greyscale", move contrast to +25... and print.

Hope this might help...

I have AccuRip and the 1400. I'm also using the printer for daily printing, so I use the standard Epson ink colors. My film is One Film, waterproof, from Davis Int'l.
I did need to play with the set up in the AccuRip. I found that a droplet weight of medium worked well for great looking black positives.

I print with an EPSON 4000, with no rip software. I think alot people that are getting good results with any printer are printing on a water proof film. I personaly print with Chromaline AccuFast Inkjet Film and I would never switch. Plus with a waterproof film you dont have to wait long for the ink to dry, if you have to wait at all. With my epson 4000, I buy a 100 foot roll.

The 1400 is the only one I have used for film works great, I did upgrade to refillable ink carts and hybrid screen printer ink from a place called inkjetcarts.com. The carts were very afforable, they have a door that flips up to refill, also a resetable chip that mounts behind the carts. I also use accurip. Great results, ink is very dark, as another post points out, adjust the droplet weight under set up in accurip. Best deal I have found on film, fixxons.com

I personally use the Epson 3800 that I purchased from Epson as a refurbished printer. I have had good success with refurbished scanner I purchased from them as well. I have the Epson 1400 but the cartridges are smaller than the 80 mil size of the 3800. When I print with no Accurip, just standard printing on Waterproof inkjet film. I adjust photo glossy and the darkest black settings and get real dark seps.
