When I print film positives for a multi-colored job on my Epson 7010, the films do not always line up correctly. I alwasy print registration marks on all of my films (even 1-colored jobs as it helps keep the image straight when burning a screen) but about 70% of the time, they do not line up. I have to reprint until I get them right. I read on here that many people are using this same printer without any issues. How can I fix this? Or should I upgrade to the 1430?

I've had the same problem on an Epson Pro 7900 using roll film. At first I thought the film was the problem but I tried several different films with the same result. I can print the same multi color design twice without making any change. The first time the registration marks can be off by 1/8th inch from top to bottom. The second time it prints, it will be dead on. Nobody has a solution for this! Epson says the printer is not made for this application and it may not register from print to print. Others have suggested unrolling the film prior to printing, changing the paper settings, etc... Hate to say it but the truth is its time to get a new film output printer. Even with the problem on the 7900, I am going with another Epson.

If it not printing in registration the film is slipping. This is usually due to a bad roller, something caught in the printer, I have even seen dust cause this.

With a roll you have to unroll the film or it will cause enough drag. If this has gone on long enough it will damage the feed rollers. Some times a cleaning of the rollers with 91% medical grade alcohol will renew enough to work or switching the rollers in their position. Not all can the be switched. Info on this is available on several websites as well as some YouTube videos.
