Printing dye-sub from Illustrator?

3558 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  mazinger
I have a job for sublimating 100+ ceraminc tiles. My client usually sends artwork in eps and i print from Photoshop.
This time they have sent artwork in AI .
Should i just print from illustrator? or change format to EPS ? which the only way i know is to open in AI and re-save as EPS (time consuming).
Any advice would be greatly appeciated.

Hi
It shouldn't matter which application you print from as long as you can set your printer up in advanced settings to print mirror etc. I will have to try one to check but should work.
Yep, just tried it and it works OK. What I do to save on sub paper is to copy and paste in MS Word then print from there. I did just that the other day when I had 30 mugs to do. I only used 10 sheets because I fitted 3 on each sheet.

Why do that when you can easily do that in Illustrator or any other graphic editing program.

Simply make the artboard as big as your paper and duplicate the items within the artboard. All you have to do then is arrange them in a way to where you can fit as many in the artboard as you can.
Why not just open the AI file in Photoshop and go from there?

AI can't be opened in Photoshop, they need to be saved as EPS.

I have used illustrator before for dye-sub but i like the fact you have more control in photoshop.
Illustrator is a vector programme and photoshop is a rastor programme there for as my images are photo's/jpegs i should be using photoshop???
If Photoshop will not open an AI file then there must be something wrong with my version, because all I have to do is open Photoshop 7 and click to open all my AI files.
