Hey guys,

Im looking at purchasing a new printer (roland truvis sg300) to print signs decals etc. When I print decals for vehicles, I was told due to the harsh conditions of weather and car washes, the print might not be that durable and to laminate the decals before install. Just wondering is this true, you have to laminate printed decals in order to last 4 to 5 years?

I've used Rust-oleum ultra cover matte clear on decals that I've printed on and on a friend's magnetic, colored signs that have been on his trucks for at least four years, and they are doing fine. Just spray the stuff on. Go crazy. Do two coats if you want. It'll seal and prevent yellowing, and is UV resistant.

Yes you should be laminating them.
Anything going on a car should be laminated, some car washes use detergents that will wreck the print. There are liquid laminates, but the films are the way to go IMO. Use cast laminate for cast printable vinyl and use calendared laminate on calendared vinyl.
