Really hard to say because it's market driven. In my market (Chicago), we have at least 5 competitors who offer DTG and are nationally recognized.

What we do that our competitors don't is offer evening hours, night hours, and weekend hours for visiting. This also allows us to bank on rush jobs that our competition can't even do because they're closed.

For jobs with 2-3 week turnaround, we're super cheap in line with competition. But if they need 5 shirts on Saturday, they're going to pay a lot. And they do.

Every area is different, less dtg in your area bigger mark up. Contract printing verses retail printing. It really finding a price that fair for you and client and you make enough to live happy.

What big competitors are there in Chicago?

g.lupo: One Hour Tees has the biggest budget (the cover a huge portion of Chicago and the burbs with gigantic billboards). SharPrint does fulfillment for huge names nationwide. RIPT Apparel is here but right now only does their online shirt of the day deal. GAFY has a strong presence locally and nationwide. There are 3 or 4 others in the surrounding burbs who are doing quite a bit of business in fulfillment.

The competition is thick, but most are 9-5 Mon-Fri, so we have a niche we fill that others can't touch easily.

In a retail environment it is best to offer just a few image size variations and have a flat rate for each variation. Trying to price each order individually will take forever. What I did was create 4 size options...and then I made an image (box) in PS to the same dimensions. I then brought the image into neorip and ripped the image using the black background settings. I used the ink cost the rip generated and multiplied it by 3. I then found a blank garment brand I liked and doubled my cost to determine the retail price. In my scenario I charged $10 for the blank; S-2XL short sleeve, any color, men's or women's cut. Take the blank price add it to the printing cost and voila you have the amount to charge your customer.

PRINT IMAGE SIZE / RETAIL PRICE

3" x 4" = $4.00
5" x 7" = $6.00
8" x 10" = $10.00
10" x 15" = $17.00

Dekay: That there is proof that every market is totally different!

I charge wholesale price for my blank garments, plus 10% for waste/loss. We charge a per-order handling fee (same if they order 1 garment or 1000) which is nominal ($5). There's a printing fee per garment, and then there's a supplies fee (ink, pretreatment, Kraft paper, etc).

This way, people have little reason to bring in their own blank garments, since I am usually cheaper. In my area, there are so many places to buy "wholesale" blanks that I had to price things this way to stay competitive over the cotton shops.

Well my company name is Hi-Res Graphics. We are based out of Eagle River, Alaska. We do everything from signs, banners, vehicle wraps to embroidery, screen printing and trophies and engraving. We are the "one stop graphics shop". We are planning on using the neoflex to replace shirts that we have been doing a printed vinyl heat transfer and low runs that would cost to much to screen print. We chose the neoflex based mainly on the support network. We almost went with another DTG but the support won us over hands down. Oh and my name is caleb. I am the production manager that also does most of our marketing.
