Re: Prices have gone up

the cost of shipping raw materials and finished goods across the globe have continued to go up substantially (although oil prices have been dropping over the past couple weeks )

knitters, dyers, cut and sew operations and distributors are all being hit with “fuel surcharges”, it was inevitable that the increase in gas prices would eventually reach all facets of the apparel industry

on the plus side.. this is better for manufacturers that produce their goods domestically since they are not shipping fabric from one part of the world, manufacturing in another and then shipping a finished good to another corner of the world… finally some good news for the local guy (kinda)

if you haven’t seen it already products coming from far and away will continue to get more expensive

im curious to know how increased energy and gas prices have affected the prices of Printing? Embroidering? Etc..?

I have some mixed feelings about this. For folks like you its great, it means Im more likely to call you for something if its going to cost me about the same from someone else. I would much rather purchase from "this" continent!

The down side......there are too many manufacturers over there, and limiting myself to just what is here in the states and canada decreases the variety I can offer someone.

Yeah, I just placed an order with TSC Apparel yesterday and their prices have gone up as well.
I did too, and it was my first order.......if they didnt offer free shipping with my first order I would have cancelled it.

Domestic production does not have to be limiting. Domestic production offers customers the opportunity to customize and order with lower minimums.
Large scale off-shore manufacturing does not offer customers the ability to tweak, adjust and modify as much a domestic manufacturer does.
When working with a local manufacturer you are closer to the action… this allows you to be more hands on and involved in the entire process.
Domestic manufacturing also means you can get your unique, tweaked, customized goods sooner without having to worry about long lead times and shipments making it across oceans to get to you.

If you could have the same degree of selection that you are offered from overseas manufacturers, with lower minimums, and shorter lead times wouldn’t that be a good thing for your business?

Patriotism aside (capitalism and free markets don’t care where your goods come from as long as the price is right and the quality is good) what type of selection and quality is offered from these other manufacturers that is not available domestically?

Re: Prices have gone up

I just realized the price on Hanes F170 Hooded sweatshirts at Broder Bros has gone up $3.34 since last Oct. That's quite an increase. Have other companies gone up as much?
I received emails from a few blank t-shirt wholesalers that their prices were going up. This came from the manufacturer level.

This was the first paragraph from an email from Bodek and Rhodes:

On October 6th, all the major manufacturers servicing our industry raised prices on the majority of their product line. This price increase will be reflected in our own prices beginning Monday October 13th.

I never received any notice from Broder Bros.
Sometimes emails get caught in spam filters somewhere along the way. There may be a few reasons why you didn't get the email (could be they are staggering the sending of the email so as not to overload mail servers)
