HI everyone
Does anyone have any tips for a design which i have contour cut and want to press on to a dark shirt.
Using jet pro opaque.

Issue i can forsee is that once the design is cut im going to have load of seperate pieces which are going to be awkward to line up on the shirt come pressing time.

Is there a way to keep the picture together. Or should i set the contour cutter to just cut away the transfer and leave the backing and press like normal?

Thanks

The adhesive is on the backing side of the opaque. You have to lift the design from the backing with transfer mask tape or sheet. I use Magic Mask sheet. Make sure you use hard squeegee to make sure the opaque is fully adhered to the sitcky side when you peel the backing off the opaque. Then press the masking sheet and the opaque. Cold peel the masking sheet. Some brands of masking tape or sheet will lift some of the ink and polymer from the opaque. So find the brand that does not lift the ink off the opaque.

Oh isee. What i still dont understand. Excuse me for being thick here. But how after contour cutting do you keep the design together to transfer it to this masking tape. Im thinking along the lines of letters when after you cut they all because loose and seperate.

After you weed the artwork. Lay the mask with adhesive down on the artwork. Place it on hard surface. Use hard squeegee or something stiff but not sharp. Squeegee the hick on top of the mask so that all the pieces are securely held by the adhesive. Slowly peel the backing. If part of the artwork did not stay on the mask put back the mask and squeegee that piece. Place the shirt on the lower platen. Press it for 5 seconds to remove the wrinkle and moisture. Place and locate the mask/artwork on top of the shirt with the artwork facing down. Press the mask/artwork according to the required settings. Cold Peel the mask. The mask is reusable.

Is that simple enough? Did that cover everything that you want to know?

The video was real helpful thank you. How many times can the mask be reused and do you have a link to the mask you would use?

I'll be using jet pro opaque as my transfer paper.

Thanks
According to manufacturer you can reuse it at least 10 times.

Here is the link where I bought mine: Beacon Graphics, LLC - 20X10YDS MAGIC MASK HIGH TACK=

It is high tack. Medium tack is recommended in the video.

You can get medium tack from Stahls:

Printable Heat Transfer Material Magic Mask | Stahls’=

Ask or buy sample piece. Try both and select the best one for your application. High tack is a bit problematic for certain brand of opaque. The adhesive tends to lift some of the ink/polymer after it is peeled off from the shirt. It works for me with Blue Grid, Roland opaque and Joto Premium CL II Laser opaque without issue. I have not tried it with other brands of opaque that works beside the 3 brands I mentioned. I had issue using with Cooler Concept opaque. It was actually became permanently stuck on the mask.

If you have problem lifting the opaque from the backing a member mentioned that putting the Mask/Opaque under hot upper platen the heat (upper platen not touching the pair) will loosen the opaque and makes the backing come off with ease.
