I'm trying to send a design to the cutter and it keeps saying there is an error with the port com 1

we had this too - you may want to switch from using a USB cable to a serial cable.

It depends on your cutter as to if this will work or not - but you can actually find a serial cable at Staples. It goes from USB to serial.
