can you narrow it down to men's, women's, kid's. I think this will make it easier to know your target audience. Who digs your designs the most? The last year in women's fashion has been Black, Brown, Hot Pink, Grass Green. Orange is gaining in popularity. I sell very little white, yellow, red colors. Brights were hot, now muted colors are everywhere. If your designs are promotional, white is popular.
target audience will be mostly women (for now), age range of 15-25. earth tone/dark colors are in now?
if this were a " Who wants to be a Millionare " question, I would say BLACK.

...i think thats what people ask for the most. But no stats to prove my answer. :(
I have some stats for "general consumers", but not specifically for that demographic.

Black
White
Ash Gray

Were the top 3 most popular t-shirt colors in a recent survey :)
Grey and brown are big as well though. Don't women prefer fashion style more then colour though? (A comment from my partner)
both play hand in hand don't they?

because only a small percentage of women are models, most prefer BLACK because is Slimming.
Ah crap !

I was avoiding printing black shirts, I didn't want black to be a part of my colour selection. Doesn't go with the whole vibe-age of my product. Then, my gf asked if I was going to use black, and another friend asked why I wasn't printing black. Now this thread started. So I guess I'm selling black shirts. Wouldn't want to not provide a colour EVERYONE seems to wear.

Oh well, could be worse. The masses could be demanding Be-jewelled kitten shirts.

Not that there's anything wrong with Be-jewelled Kitten shirts...

Actually, even if black is the most popular color, not everyone wears it. I for one only wear it once in a while. And even if someone wears black, they are not likely to wear it every single day.

I think the main thing is your designs - If they are awesome, people will want to buy them. Even if they whine that you don't have a certain color, it's not usually the deciding factor.

One other thing - t-shirts are worn year-round, but they are definitely worn more often in the summertime - and wearing a black shirt in summer is not always a good idea. :)

Although black hides stains better (which is one reason a lto of people like it) than white, I always liked white better because A) it was much cooler in the summer time and B) cat hair shows up BIG TIME on black shirts but not as much on white =)

Top colors will vary by audience and demographic. Geek demographics will be extremely high in black for example. I'd suggest starting with some basic colors (most common ones like white & black + colors you think your designs look best on) and feel it out from there. Ask the customers (poll on website, for example) what colors they'd like added. Possibly remove the poorest selling colors. Things like that.

Where do you get some of the current fashion colors (hot pink, browns, orange - especially)?

I am coming at this from the sublimation side where white and grey have been the only choices, but we get a lot of seasonal demand, and I would like to offer at least orange during the Halloween season.

Any ideas would be welcome!

Black would be my first guess, although blue is by far and away the biggest selling clothing colour on eBay, by a long shot, and has been since the start.

Hi, I think Black and White is the forever color that works:)
Part of the popularity also deals with your location. For example, I'm in SW Florida - black is definitely NOT the most popular here because of the intense sun. About the only time to wear black here is either on the Harley or during the winter months when it only gets to about 75 degrees or at night after the sun sets.

Ash is popular
White is popular
