Poly/Cotton Question

1858 Views 17 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  lben
I'm currently doing embroidery, DTG printing and vinyl graphics on garments. My question is I keep getting requests for imprinting on 60/40 (cotton/poly) fabric blend, what is my next choice for imprinting?

Vinyl will work fine on that. Screen printing will also work on that. I don't think there are any other categories besides rhinestones and heat transfers that you aren't already doing. Sublimation requires 100% poly.
The next, best and greatest most fulfilling would be SCREEN PRINTING!!

Ha-Ha-haaaa!

To do it successfully and with the least amount of difficulty and frustration, know that there are a lot of steps that are reqiured that have to be understood and there is no way around that.

I always suggest starting with a good comprehensive instructional method, book, workshop or mentorship instead of just jumping and learning as you go.

The water is fine.
And along with that.. go to silkscreeningsupplies.com and get yourself a copy of the instruction CD called Screen Printing 101. It's around $50 and it will be the best $50 you will ever spend. It goes from setting up the artwork to cleaning up afterwards with everything in between covered in detail.

I still think Ryan should send me a commission check for all the business I send his way.. Hahaha
Thanks to you all -- I don't have the space or desire to do screen printing. I might just farm this out when I get these requests. Thanks again
This might sound like a stupid question, but why can't you do vinyl transfers? Vinyl sticks to all kinds of fabrics.

I do vinyl, but sometimes there is too much too weed, then become too expensive for my clients. I appreciate your comments. thanks much.:)
OK that explains why. Weeding can be a nightmare at times. So I guess we're right back to the beginning. Have you looked into flock? Or rhinestones? I can understand your not wanting to get involved with the mess and space requirements for screen printing. But I will tell you that it is a lot of fun.
What's wrong with this preface???
What?????

I read the part about vinyl transfers and I was just confused about the question about a 60/40 blend and couldn't figure out why that made a difference with vinyl. Now I see it really doesn't have as much to do with the material as it does weeding the vinyl.

I'm old and gray and the brain doesn't function the way it used to. I know.. the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked.;) Just giving you a hard time, because I can and there isn't anything you can do about it. So there.

I'm a lot closer than you think ;)

:eek:rut roh... Guess I'll have to behave myself then. You lucked out on that one..
How about building a tiny screen press and using vinyl instead of burning emulsion? It won't do photo realistic halftones but some people have gotten some nice prints with it:

That way you only have to weed once!
Yudu makes a tiny screen press for doing cards.
Thanks for your suggestion -- but I haven't a clue what you're talking about. I know nothing about screen printing.
On second thought the little yudu wouldn't be big enough. Have you tried it yet to see if it was possible to do?
