Can you attach a picture of it? That would help identify the problem.
platen cracking in the middle
We are having trouble with the center of our platen cracking. I had tried looking it up but it seems no one else has had this issue. Any ideas on what could be causing it?

I assume you mean the rubber top? I would guess that your flash is cooking it. You can replace the rubber. Then I would try to make sure they don't spend too much time under the flash.
