so, i need to mix up some bright pink...

should i....

start with brite red, and add white.

or,

start with white ink and add red.

and i'm only mixing for 10 shirts front, back, sleeve.

i've only had to mix once, and that was to make a royal blue out of navy and white..

i ended up with a batch of sky blue, and a batch of pretty close to royal blue. both were 4 times more than i needed!! lol

...me my mo mink pink ink!

Now this is from my experience.

Red and white or vice versa probably won't give you the "bright pink" you want. "Light" pink maybe or if it's darker more of a peach color.

If you're not in a bind, just buy some.

I'd put red in white. Try to find some graduated 50 or 100 ml cups (drugstore). Start with half the cup of white, then add red to see what your proportions are for the color you want. But as stated above, this will only give you pastel pinks, not hot pink.

I'd agree on the buying a small amount of a pink--it could also help out with other mixes if you get a really hot pink, or neon pink, you'll be able to bump up the intensity on any mixes that need it.

Digging around more for emergency mixing of hot pink, the best mixes seem to be: more red than white, some purple, some yellow, then add white to it. I've always made pink by adding red to white but I'm not a pro at paint mixing. I'm guessing that if you have fluorescent yellow around that it would work better than primary yellow.

thanks guys..

i was going to buy pink. but it didn't look nearly as neon pink as the customer was hoping for after looking at the catalog. so she agreed to just a normal pink mixed myself.

the smallest i can buy is a quart. that'd last me forever. so we figured we would just mix.

if I can't get a color i'm happy with today, then i'll just go ahead and order some.

you'll never quite get a bright pink by mixing red and white. unfortunately, it'll always turn out to be a duller peach/pink combo. the best way to get a pink, rather than purchasing it, is to mix straight white with MAGENTA (cmyk process color). That'll get you much closer to the bright neon pink. Give it a shot!
