I use Corel 11, primarily for Heat Transfers and it works fine. Many of my customers send me Photoshop ie: eps, ai files and I'm unable to open them with Photoshop 5.0 as this seems to be too old of a version to read those files.
What would you recommend to view these files and save them into either corel or even a jpg?
I've looked at CS2 online for around $100.00. I don't want to spend much, especially since I do most of my work in Corel.

thanks

Have you tried using the freeware program GIMP? Its basically like photoshop but free. I've actually never used it myself but I'm willing to bet you can open up those files in that program. Check it out and see if it works.

Try this imageconverter plus...handles psd and eps $49.00 or free trial.
Image Converter Plus - professional image converter: compress picture, photo, graphic converter
ImageConverter Plus video lesson

Otherwise Photoshop Elements is a cheaper option that will read and convert psd, eps, ai, etc.

Elements v5 here for only $32.00
Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 OEM

Hi- I downloaded version 6 of Elements, but I couldn't get it to read eps or ai files, whether I opened or imported them.

I believe if you have your clients send you the .eps files...In newer versions of Illustrator...
they can choose... save for Illustrator 8 when they save the file...
it will open in Corel for you...

Do this: Create a new document and import the EPS files using the "post-script interpreted" filter, if this fails maybe there's nothing you can do other than upgrading. Try asking your customers to save as a lower version of EPS. Regarding your PDF files, Draw 11 wasn't the best at this, it really got better with X3. One thing you can try is opening the PDF with Adobe Reader and print the document "to file" and try importing this ps file from draw using the Postscript interpreted filter. If you need more help on this or step by step instructions, don't hesitate to ask.

I have a version of Photoshop Elements 3.0. In the editor portion of the program, I am able to open eps, AI and PSD with no problems. Why don't you post the file you are having trouble with.

Thank you for your help. I'll just buy an older version of Adobe Photoshop. I tried loading Corel X2 but that crashes another important software I use. Which would be the version to buy that will give me the option to read the ai/eps files without all the extras? As I mentioned- Corel 11 is fine for my T-shirt printing needs.

Hmm- I downloaded their trial and just unistalled. What was this editor portion you are speaking of?
When you load the program (perhaps 6.0 is different) there is a splash screen. The editor is the part of the program for editing files.

From our experience the days of .eps files simply being saved, imported, exported, to other programs are over. We use the latest versions of AI and Corel and we still have issues importing certain .eps files. If it is a simple graphic design there are typcally no issues. The more complex the design the better the chance the .eps can not be imported. For our purposes many times we just save the file 100% of size at 300 dpi in a .tiff format to print.
