Photoshop - Help with a Hose...

958 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  AGELLC
Hey Guys and Gals,

I am not proficient with PS by any stretch. I am needing to basically add on to this hose--make it longer and kind of loop it around a little. How do I begin to do this? I tried using the clone tool and it started to look like the burnt end of a snake firecracker.... any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'd do it as a combination vector and raster image sort of like the attached. The black hose is a vector outline ("stroke" in Illustrator) and the gray highlight is the same outline converted to a bitmap and blurred a little bit. Used the eraser tool on the intersections.

I did this real quickly so it's kind of sloppy. I'd work on it a little harder if I was doing it for a customer but you get the idea...

vector, then you can add as many curves/loops as needed

then if needed clip to a raster hose to make it look more 'real'

Thanks guys! I will give the vector/raster steps a shot.
I am using Corel but I think I understand what you are saying to do here, but the highlight is throwing me off. The effect of the hose that you produced is exactly what I need. I vectored my hose shape with a black fill and outline. I am at the highlight step. I understand that you duplicated the vector shape and used that to produce the highlight, but I am not sure how exactly. Do you fill the shape a certain way and then convert to raster? That's the part I am having trouble with.

Check out Photoshop's Puppet Warp feature. It's a thing of magic. It can bend organic shapes/images in a totally believable fashion.
