Photoshop CS4 Commands greyed out?

2610 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  jsf
I am working in Photoshop CS4 on a MAC.

Up until now I have filled lettering in text with patterns and colors.

I've ALWAYS used the Magic Wand tool to select the letter and then:
got to edit < Fill < Fill with pattern

Today for some reason, I use the wand, select the part of the text I want to fill and the FILL COMMAND is GREYED OUT, it will not let me choose it.

I have tried resetting my tools and that didn't work, closed photoshop and re started, and even restarted the computer..

other people have told me, I have to rasterize my text first... I believe them but I HAVE NEVER DONE that before EVER.. once I do that i won't be able to change the text.

I don't know why it's all of a sudden doing this... PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!!

you need to have the type tool selected and then highlight the text....then at the top where all the settings for the tool currently being used you should see a color box ..this is where you can change the color of the text....or go to the edit-fill dialog and see if that works...hope this helps

yea, that's how I do if I want to change the color, but I was doing it with the edit dropdown and the fill to get access to my patterns.
I believe if you want to fill with a pattern you will need to make a selection of the text , then create a new layer and fill the new layer with the pattern.....hope this helps

You cannot do fill selection on texts, unless you have converted the texts in to raster. or if you are really want to make it work just right click your text layer in the layer panel and select "Rasterize type" or from the menu bar: Layer>Rasterize>Type,

OR

Select the text by your wand, create new layer...

then and forth you can manage to fill your selection with patterns and fills.... :)

Goodluck.
