Where do you get the photos for designs to post online? Do I need to hire models and take pictures myself?

I’m in the process of having a site built. I was going to do a gallery of picture I had taken and cutout but my developer suggested life shots of real people by a pro photographer.
When he said $150/hr I almost fell over but he can take 40-50 shots in an hour and the cropping and touch up is included so my web developer has exactly what he needs and I don’t have to screw with photos. Sometimes saving money isn’t really saving, get someone who knows what he’s doing.

it also depends on the type of site
is it a showcase of your abilities and info about your shop
or is it a straight up t-shirt sales vehicle, where you just want to sell your designs on apparel
check out the 'rate my ecommerce' type posts here,
and see what tickles your fancy
there should be a good sampling of both styles and everything in-between
then at least you can say i just want tee's or tee's on models
(don't do the torso-only thing, the headless/armless body is psychologically jarring/off-putting to some)
