Can someone please tell me what this effect is called? I don't even know where to begin in order to search for it...I guess this is also similar to how Harley Davidson creates it's dealer shirts as well? If someone can please lead me to an example of how to make this effect I would be forever grateful. Thanks in advance.

Can anyone help? Here is another example of the look I am going for. I am sure this is done in Photoshop, but i dont know what it is called. What is the process called which allows you to take a color photo and get this effect? Halftone maybe? I am trying to convert a photo for DTG:

There is a variety of ways to do it. It's more in the color separation than just being a one-step photoshop effect. Try searching youtube for techniques on color separating photos for screen printing.

One way I would do it...
Inverse the image; adjust the contrast and brightness to desired levels; save as bitmapped tif.

It's called Posterizing. It's taking a photo image that has many colors and replicating it with only a few colors.
-Turn pic to black and white image
-Go to Adjustments/Posterize

Theres more advanced ways of doing this which includes taking the black and white photo to illustrator. Contrast is the biggest key to getting the posterized picture to look good.

Your first example is a sepia tone separation with an added spot color. The second example is a grayscale separation using multiple grays and a base. Most likely 3 grays, a white base and a light black to help with the contrast.

These are not 1 click effects, they are color separations.
