Pattern or image around a shape?

1547 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  nealers77
Hi folks,

I'm trying & failing to get tyre tracks to follow a shape for a design I have in mind.

I've tried to use the same principles in following a path, and tried brushes to work the same way. I've also tried puppet warp to shape an image of a tyre track, but for some reason it loses some of the tyre pattern when warping. No idea why.

Anyone know what to do or point me in the way of a nice tutorial?

Many thanks!

How about taking one part (one tread) with the polygonal lasoo tool and then edit/copy and then edit paste/edit paste/edit paste etc. Then edit/ Free Transform to turn the bits and position them the way you want them to link up. Turn all the layers off except the background and the layer you are moving around. When you have finished merge all the tyre layers.

The problem is I have a wavy tyre tread, and even if it was straight I still need to bend it around an irregular shape.

Brushes will only do it in blocks.

That's why I thought Puppet Warp was the answer. Stick in the pins and slightly rotate the portion that needed to be moved. But when I try to use it, portions of the tracks disappear.
Here's a tutorial on AI, easy to follow.

Adobe Illustrator: How to Warp an Illustration
Cheers, I'll use my limited knowledge of AI and give it a go.

If anyone else has any more suggestions then please shout, I'm convinced there must be a way to do this in Photoshop, especially with Puppet Warp or something I'm missing.
Illustrator brush will do it if you know how to make brushes. If not, then you need to read up on a tutorial on making brushes. It takes a little practice, but can do wonderful things when you learn how. Tire tracks following a path are certainly possible with Illustrator brush.

I don't but I'll certainly give it a go! Thanks for the tip.

Anyone know why Puppet Warp is not playing ball?
