Pantones and Price Break Qtys

Hi all,
Regarding Pantones and screen printing...
1. Should we be designing in coated or uncoated?
2. Will the printed colors match with our Formula Guide, esp on darker garments? Or is a base white layer laid down? If so does that count as a hit/pass for pricing?

Regarding price break qtys (maybe should have split this onto another thread)
1. For planning purposes, when looking at contract printing price breaks, as long as print placement is the same for everything, can you combine sizes and styles of garments to reach the qty break? For example, we want to hit a 288 piece break, can we do 12 men's L, 12 mens M, 12 womens Sml, etc? Also, can you move across styles, like half traditional cut and half fitted, say from different manufacturers?

Thanks much! Andy

The common practice is using Coated when dealing with plastisol inks.

using a mixo system/formula guide will accurately produce the Pantone colors, however you will need an underbase for dark garments to achieve accurate color and that is often considered an extra screen and hit.
Printing on darks would probably need a white underbase. An underbase is considered another color so a screen and its charges are involved.

Pantone solid coated.

Print placement will be different for mens and womens tees but shouldnt matter in pricing.

That said, going from small to say 2x or a womans small to a mens xl can be of concern. One design fits just right and one is way small or large on the basic tee size.

This can mean that you are designing for the different sizes so you either create in a universal fits all size or you are making screens of your design for the different tee sizes. One is inexpensive but not perfect and one gets very expensive but sized correctly per tee size.

it would probably be better to limit your tee size range.

Thanks!
Good point about design size on the garment crossing from the very small to the the large. Will keep that in mind.

Still solid coated for waterbased and discharge?

Have no experience or clue here...does the base layer add more hand feel to the print?
