Outsourcing heat transfers vs. equipment investment

I am a huge, sopping wet sponge in the "research" phase of starting my own custom apparrell biz that will focus on smaller niche work and team uniforms.

I am leaning towards DTG digital for white and light cotton or 50/50 and heat transfers for darks and polyesters. My question is:

Is it more economical to outsource heat transfers than it would be to purchase the printer and optical cutter and do it all in-house? I was looking at purchasing the equipment, but perhaps that is not necessary..........turn-around time on outsourccing is okay?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

if you ARE getting into the Printing Trade, i would say yes invest in some equipment and learn as you go. You will make more profit this way than as if you were a middle man.

I guess a middle man is more of a sales person than a trades person.

..thats my opinion. :)

add on: middle men usually sell for various companies... to make it worth it.

do you know what machine need to purchase to make transfers and where
your best bet is to go to a trade show.

the best deals are when companies retire though. :D
Its a lot easier than starting from scratch.
I Have Printers And A Heat Press But I Am Moving And Have To Pack Most Every Thing But Will Keep The Heat Press Out. Is There A Company I Can Farm The Printing Of My Heat Transfers Graphics Out To? They Are Black And White/gery Scale Cartoons. I Want To Be Able To Keep Pressing Even Though My Printers And Stuff Is Packed Away. Quality And Cost Effective For A Few Months. I will be printing on 50 50 blend shirts
Thanks
Are you able to print a stock of them in advance for yourself, use them as you need them?
Thanks for the reply,
No we're not and I'm not sure how long we'll be down. I'm interested in new stuff which we don't have enough of a track record to warrant building an inventory.
