Original Artwork Submission

Hey guys! This is my first time posting on here and I have a request from anyone interested, I've recently opened my second business which is going to be of similar taste to snorgtees, bustedtees, etc. I'm looking for people who have some original artwork that doesn't utilize clip art or other purchased digital images that would like to sell as a shirt on my site, we need designs and are hoping to run the site in 27 days. If you have any cool ideas or sayings or anything even swing them by me so I can make something! Any little bit helps and I would be really appreciative, also if your design ends up in the store the description will mention your name as the designer!!

I just want to clarify your request. Are you looking for members to sell their shirts on your site? Buy designs from members? Or are you looking for members to supply designs at no charge to you so you can sell shirts and make money with just a mention of the artist on the site?
Sorry yes I should clarify, I'm guessing this is more like a contest. I'm advertising it as if your design is picked then you will receive $30.00 and your shirt for free. I should have also stated that designs by the t-shirt forums will also receive royalties which are to be calculated in the nearing future. For more info on what the general public is seeing check out my website :) striptees

Ditto.

Also, you're not providing any info on yourself, Kursev. We don't even know where you are?

I'm from Ontario Canada and on launch the site will be selling and shipping to Canada and the United States, international sales and shipping is to be determined after launch happens

Oops, your post (the one above) popped in as I was writing my last post......
Hmmm, it's been my experience, at least, that this type of 'contest' works out to be phony most times.
Just a way for someone to get free designs.
You MAY not be like this, but, not a good, honest approach in my book.
Like I said, just my experience.

Yea I can see where that could be an issue, it's hard for me to do it any other way. I'm not financially able to hire a bunch of designers nor do i have the time and brain power to come up with 100 - 200 shirt ideas! I just threw this together quickly in order to get the store up, it will be a continuous thing and submissions will probably always be open. It's hard to get passed that trust thing first.
Somewhat of a catch 22 situation. You are looking for designs to sell with a new business but most people are reluctant without you have some legitimacy or an established reputation (a good one).
Wait a minute, your paying a wopping $30 if someone picks it, be still my beating heart.. What the heck to you expect to get ? You also stated your not financialy stable.... I can see where this is going ?
I consult with people every week who want to create contest sites.

The reality is, if you don't put up a LOT of cash to attract artists, you're not going to get any artists. I usually suggest running a gigantic prize for the first 3 or 4 contests you run. You don't only need artists, you need customers, so offer a gigantic prize for signups as well.

$5000 for the first winning design would turn a lot of heads. $1000 cash for a random signup for customers would also do the same. Budget around $20,000 for your first 4 contests and you'll get traffic.

And then the added that they'd also have to actually pay out to winners !
That's the $5000 prize.

Saturated markets require eye openers in order to get attention.
I like the name, and the site looks well done (as does your other site, Kursev).

But this forum is probably the wrong place to hunt for design contributers, as those of us who have designs probably also have our own plans and means of producing and marketing them on shirts.

So, as with the other sites that follow your general model, your designs will tend to come from the great (unwashed?) masses who have the occasional idea, but not the means, interest, or ambition to do something with it themselves.

I agree with the previous posts that you should sweeten the pot as to compensation, though maybe not as crazily as they suggested (though that would probably be effective advertising). For sure you need to state what compensation people get on a per unit basis, or perhaps payouts when specific quantities are sold, or some mix of the two? $30, a shirt, and some totally unknown amount to be paid at some unknown future time ... I don't see that compelling even the unwashed masses.

Something else to consider. You may have noticed that the other sites that do this sort of thing have the Great Unwashed Masses look at the designs and pick the ones that get put into production. If your site takes off, you will be drowning in krap designs. They avoid the expense and time of sorting through the dreck by having the GUM do it for free.

I appreciate all of your inputs! It's still something that I clearly need to work at, and I've been reaching out locally for some artists, I do agree 100% with the comment that explains going for the people with the ideas but not really the means of production! Also thank you NoXid for you input on my sites :)

As for the comment about being not financially stable, I must rephrase: it is easier and more cost effective to select designs and pay like that than it would be to pay an hourly wage for a designer to work all day and potentially give me only 1 or 2 good designs.
1 or 2 good designs will be worth more than having to go through an undetermined amount & have none. $5000 is definitely over the top, but you'll never get quality designs for next to nothing unless you can find a talented student willing to work for gas money or to help meet college or other expenses.Talented designers aren't a dime a dozen.

I have designer pals who submit to Threadless because (a) tens of thousands of eyeballs visit the site and (b) $1000+ minimum value for a design winning.

I stand by my $5000 opening contest prize. Anything less and you give artists zero reason to share. And you won't get thousands of eyeballs visiting to vote.

$20,000 startup costs for a new business in a competitive field is peanuts.
