Options for screen printing

I am new to the T-Shirt business, I have had a tough time getting exactly what I want. my design is a square shape, black and white. The shirts I have ordered and screen printed have a thick, patch feel to them. They are hot in the summer, how can I get the print without the patch feeling on my shirt? Thanks for your help??

Waterbased ink or plastisol with a reducer for a soft hand feel.
We print with discharge inks if our customer wants a really soft hand feel on dark shirts. The catch is not all shirts can be discharged. They have to be natural fibers like cotton and even then only some brands and colors work well. There are several good black shirts that work though.
