ok so looking at it to me its probably a film problem but thought I'd ask your thoughts. I havnt been at this for very long but I have never had this problem untill today. I'm using a epson 1400 with epson inks, normaly I just print my seperations straight from the output of Simple Seps but today I decided to try out the "rich black" color so I changed all the seps out to 100 CMYK instead of the 100k that they are normaly. I thought that the "rich black" was better but its the only thing I've done diffrent ? atached is a pic of the screen after exposing

Matte paper + text settings should be among the darkest. However, when my old printer got some problems printing solid black, I switch to matte + 100%CMK (no Y), I expose just fine.

What are your printer settings?

I use plain paper, best photo, I've never changed anything else, never had a problem untill today. I dont realy have a bunch of time to mess with this at the moment so I think Im just going to print another set of films at 100k and just double them with the 100 CMYK and then when I get a chance to "play" I'll see if one gives diffrent results over the other. the only reason I dont want to just burn the 100k films is just incase its something else I don't want to loose the time on this job need to get it going (350 piece 4 color)..
Do use matte paper, and preferably text quality, if you want to try again.
You need to use a photo paper. Plain paper the printer won't put out enough ink. You have used plain paper in the past. Take out the Y or cut down to 35. I seen Angel's post with test. I get get better results with photo or best photo. Might be the film but it has been a while since I tried with stock cartridges. I now use a ciss with all black.
For all black cartridges I would guess that the best photo settings will give a darker black.
ok got my little problem taken care of. I reprinted the films they came out much better I think I had a brain fart when I used plain paper setting, since I dont do this allot there is some time gap between doing films I guess I need to start making notes to remind myself what to do right. Thanks for your help !!

Good to hear. I keep a log sheet for every job starting from file name and location on PC and server to actual print size and settings all the way to actually printing on press. When repeat jobs come in it save a bunch of time and aggravation.
