Please find attached a series of scans made from printing on Black Cardstock using the various printers we have. The color differences are very subtle. Basically, they all give good results. What is not shown is the Blacklight glow of the iColor prints which we will try to reproduce in a video version.

In the upper left corner of each picture is the name of the printer or material used. For example, the brightest white is done using a regular Canon 6030 Black toner printer with the Forever Flex Soft White.

David, For future postings I suggest that you refer to the white toner as Opacity of white toner and not Opaque White toner.
OR Density of white toner

There is no such thing as OPAQUE White toner and it is mis leading to the readers of the topic.

You can increase the density in one pass through your software and in the printer driver. This will increase the density so much that the white toner printed will now give the appearance of OPAQUE white.

It would be helpful if you could provide the driverr settings for "White Toner" you used, as OKI and Cannon 550 seems to produce whiter print. Flexi-soft is has higher opacity as it is white material to begin with.

Like Sublial suggested - opaque is not a correct term. I used it just as the reference to the previous thread that was moving in another direction.

None of these are opaque - including Flex Soft White. The FS White was under printed with black toner and though on this black sheet it 'looks' very bright white - if it were applied to a white or very light surface then you would see a tint of gray. (BTW - if you want really bright colors in FS "white red pink green, etc" then it is recommended to under print with white toner.)

Based on the responses it seems that there "might" be some controls to adjust the density of toner. I do know this control exisits on a couple of the printers but not sure about others. For example I have not yet found such a control on the HP.

But this thread seems not well read so I really have other things I need to spend my time on.

I use levels in PS to change the density by setting the input level at 6 and the mid input level at 18.
I also change in grayscale of the printer driver the brightness and contrast to make the density darker as well.
This will give you a very opaque appearance on clear films and dark color papers.
You also need to set your paper weight settings for label 1 or 2. transparency setting can be used as well.

I know this is an old thread and it wasn't well used but if possible and he is still around I would love to know 3 things from David or anyone else that has experience with this?

1) What printer do you like best or favor?
2) What do you think of the iColor 550?
3) Can you give an idea of least expensive to most expensive?

Reason I am asking is I have/had been considering the Epson Sure Color F570 for sublimation but from what I have read and a video on you tube, the iColor 550 does white and also has sublimation inks that you can just drop in and because they are not inkjet, you don't have to prime. Among other things that it does. I just haven't found out how expensive in comparison to the Epson the inks are. The part I like the best about iColor is you don't have to worry about what the substrate or material is.
Any feedback or input would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

Wow this is an old thread and much has changed since this thread was posted.
To answer your question of a lesser cost process a white toner printer with the sublimation ink jet printer is a superior process then using sublimation toners as a dark color transfer printer to cotton shirts.
I originally was the first manufacturer of sublimation toners for laser process transfer printing in 2006 as well as the first to make white toners for the oki laser printers in 2007 before Oki data or anyone else made white toners.
That being said it is my experience that the sublimation ink combined with laser white toner application onto Image Clip papers for dark and light colors is more of a durable process as well as a higher resolution then sublimation, or regular toner process. We have drifted away from those applications years ago due to this better quality of transfers.

Al thanks for the info....I have not seen sublimation ink combined with laser white toner application. Can you give me more detail or reference please.
Thank you again
