Old Vacuum Exposure unit

Is this unit worth putting money into or just look for a cheap exposure unit. The light at bottom works, its 1000 watt. The vacuum works but doesnt completely suck the rubber all the way down so its leaking and the glass is cracked on a corner so im guessing thats where the leak is. So glass would be $175 and new rubber $60 so is it worth repair or buy a Ryoney cheap 16X20 basic Exposure for $199.
Whats thoughts on just putting a big LED at bottom to replace the current lighting. Something like this one

I couldn't open your .jpg but you might be able to try a piece of soft foam. Place your screen pallet side down on the glass and then put a piece of 2" (or whatever thickness your frame is and add 1/2") foam inside the frame. When you close the lid, it will push the foam into the screen and hold it flat against the glass. Make sure to use black foam or else put the foam in an old black t-shirt to help with undercutting on the exposure.
Your pics don’t come up.

From your description you have a national or atlas also was made by a few others and should have 2 unfiltered blacklights on either side. I converted mine to metal halide about 7years and then to led. 50w will work but not enough power especially for larger screens. There is a thread with @firefighter17 http://www.t-shirtforums.com/screen-printing-equipment/t851713.html. Where he did the same and some pics. I have a few threads and there should be some pics.

As for the glass replace it with PPG Starphire but is now Vitro brand think it will cost more although when I replaced mine was $150 range but I get at 3-5% above cost. If you get it to seal the glass likely break. Each inches of mucury puts about .5PSI and pump usually pulls 20-29Hg so 10-14PSI go to big box store and get closed cell foam rubber. Put on glass edge this is common leak. You can find leaks easily with smoke also.

Be careful with these units though. The glass just rest on a frame and if you lift top before vacuum releases the glass will lift with top. Make sure none of th welds touch glass and the felt is in place.

There is a problem with server or forum software. Admins have been notified. I’ll see if I can take a few pics and host remotely.
That would be great, I can PM ya an email address if easier.
Its so big im thinking why not build a 10 -16 tall box drop same LED components inside. Use the pump from it to make it a vacuum setup.

For me it was about speed. That’s why I bought the exposure unit in first place. I didn’t want to build out of wood as it will warp over time plus originally was a metal halide conversion and metal was going to cost more then I spent on the exposure unit.

Going to shop in a bit.
True,
Im gonna look into switching that anolog dial timer to a digital count down. And im pretty sure the rubber on top is good so save some money there. Needs a new seal maybe. The latches are gone so gotta replace those too. I found the glass 1/4 thick 34 1/4 X 28 3/4 for $70.

If it’s not low iron glass this will block out much of the UV light. Cheap may not be the way to go here. If you can find the starphire glass it is the most optically clear low iron glass made.

Without the latches clamped down mine won’t pull a vacuum ona screen.

Mine has a digital timer but I decided not to use it. With 200w led 8-12 sec exposures I don’t use the timer at all.
Did ya use a single 100 watt? I used the link from other thread is a 100 watt. Yeah, 8 seconds i can count that.

That was my first light 100w 20 sec but the back side was slightly under and the top side at 25 sec was over exposed while the backside still under. . Firefighter17 used a 50w. The 200w exposes all the way though. I almost alway use 10 sec but thicker stencils I do 12 sec while 45 LPI and higher I do 8 sec.
PM me your contact info. I have some private videos I’ll send ya the links. Not going to shop till morning now.
