Hi,

I'm having serious trouble with magic Touch TTC 3.1 getting stuck in the fuser of my C5850. Any suggestions?

I'm using the proper A4R version of the paper. I'm using the manual tray and the back exit of the printer.

I've tried the recommended weight setting (Heavy) which jams 99% of the time (if you're lucky you'll get one sheet through). I've tried Medium at Magic Touch's suggestion. which works for a while but the toner fusing is a bit patchy and half of the transfers are unusable. I've even tried it on Transparency out of desperation but the output was terrible.

When run hot enough to fuse properly, the transfer seems to almost dig itself into the teeth at the back of the fuser. Yes, I've cleaned all the resulting gunk off (I even broke a fuser doing this so often. The one that's in there now is virtually new).

I've even tried printing from both PC and Mac to elimiate any driver issuses.

When I first got the printer a few months ago I ran 60-odd transfers straight through with no problems. Since then, nothing but grief. I've got a job of about 300(!) to do and I'm at my wit's end...

Any ideas, anyone? Please?!

...so, with no suggestions here I continued experimenting...

I tried running it through as Ultra Heavy. This was against my instincts, as applying MORE heat to something that was already apparently melting onto my fuser didn't seem like a good idea.

However, it worked and I got a run of over 100 sheets out before the next jam. Not sure if it's the extra heat or the way that the paper transport is much slower on this setting that is helping. Anyway, I'm, not going to question it too much as long as it continues to work!

I should also add that, if you DO get a jam, then it is essential that everthing out the back of the fuser/rear exit is spotless before you try printing again. You need to remove all residual gack from the teeth/rollers on the fuser, and I also had a buildup on the roller spindle in the rear exit (not on the rubber rollers themselves, but on one of the smaller round projections on the spindle itself).

I have an Oki 5500 and run TTC 3.1 and 3.3 with the heavy setting through the MP tray. I run 5 blank sheets of regular paper through before printing on the transfer paper. Your model may be slightly different if these settings don't work for you. I've never had a jam when following this procedure. The jams come when I use some of the other paper settings or don't run a few blanks to get it to heat up. Check the Magic Touch site for support. It has suggestions for some printers.

The output tends to vary by environment at times. I find that if Heavy does not work, Ultra Heavy most often does as you suggested. By selecting Ultra Heavy, you are slowing the paper down in the machine just a bit more, giving it more time to fuse (or more heat, as you mentioned). It is also importaint to use the straight through paper path, and to run several sheets of plain paper through if you've had a jam before continuing to run TTC media. We have developed an Oki User Guide here in the USA, go here: Laser Transfer Paper - TheMagicTouch USA - Support Then open the "equipment" folder, then "printer", then "Okidata", then select "C6150N Setup". This should help guide you. If not you can always email support in the USA at: [email protected] or elsewhere in the world at: [email protected]

Hope this helps!

Here is another thought...

Make sure your printer is plugged directly into a wall socket, this will reduce the chance that a power strip is restricting or causing variations in power, therfore variations in fusing.

Perhaps a long shot, but you never know!
