Odorless fixation agent? Are you using it?

3316 Views 13 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Samster777
Today we had a visit from a kornit tech and i spoke to him about the odorless fixation agent. He said there is absolutely no reason to stick with the old stinky one. The odorless works just the same as the regular one, he said....

What fixation are you guys using? We would love to get rid of the vinnegar smell.... Those who do use the odorless - have you realized a decline in print quality or washability??

Looking forward to your responses.

Switched over to the order less awhile back. No differences, it's the same. Go for it.

Personally I like the vinegar smelling one lets you know if a shirt is cured. If it smells like vinegar I toss it back in the dryer when it's cured right there's no smell. of course everyone makes fun of me when I snatch up a shirt and sniff it when it comes out of the dryer. Oh well at least the print isn't not washing off. I have used the odorless before and got complaints of stuff fading after its been washed or completely coming off. It wasn't the fixation so much as me not curing it properly. Use what ever feels right. I doubt there's any real difference between the two.
Heads up the odorless over time will ware on your parts faster then the New V201B New scent spray.

Which parts have you had issues with since using the odorless fixation? Pumps, regulators, filters?
We've been using the odorless fixation for at least six months. I haven't seen any difference in the printing or how they hold up when washed. We have a Kornit 932NDS.
Why the additional wear?

Have you seen this wear?

Spray Nozzles, Electromagnets, Banjo bolts, Spray Pump, and it will def eat up your palates quicker as well. I have also seen the Spray pump pressure regulators go as well. Pretty much the whole spray system and anything around it. We ran for about 9-10 months with it.

Watch your Sprinkler with Valve Assembly, Kornit in the end replaced all of ours because it destroyed them internally and externally.

Kornit did make an upgrade to this part so i am sure... that is better at this point.

Another note! Make sure you have the hard black plastic spray manifolds, over time any of the sprays eat away at these causing leaks and inconsistent spray pressures and drop outs. We have replaced all of these as well do to both sprays.

There is an additive that is more caustic that was add that they are not telling you/us about.

Check your MSDS
I've requested MSDS's in the past with no response. I will try again. Thanks for the heads up.
Odorless fixation can't be used on 921. It will hurt the spray pump system. I heard from a kornit engineer.
I have a call into a Kornit technician I trust. I will let you know what he has seen in the field.
I just got off the phone with a Kornit technician (does not work for Kornit) relative to the ordorless fixation. He said he hasn't seen any difference with the odorless fixation versus the old one. He did hear that if you over "cook" a shirt the new fixation can get wreck a t-shirt.

He did confirm that one of his customers is running white vinegar. He believes the ratio that customer is using is 2:1.

We had that issue. A batch of shirts after a wash had the image all faded and peeling off. The image was stuck to each other after our customers washed it. It was shirts for softball players so we knew it couldn't have been an issue from how they washed it or something. There wasn't an issue with the first batch. the second batch had the odorless fixation. That's the only thing that got changed. Changing the pretreat back to the normal fixation, fixed the issue.
