I tried searching the Brother forum to see if anyone has tried printing on those nylon drawstring backpacks. Couldn't find anything. Has anyone had luck with this? If so, what type of heat setting should the heat press be set at? Thanks for any information.

We have printed on nylon backpacks, using special transfer materials like this which SPECIFICALLY say they can be applied to nylon. In this case you only need 305 degrees for 5 seconds, a setting most nylon bags can handle.
We have had small quantities printed for us by Wellington House, and were very satisfied, as were our customers.

Stahls CAD-COLOR Digital Media

Solutions™ OPAQUE
This innovative digital media for heat transfer application is perfect for printing high quality, full-color custom graphics. Featuring STX2™ adhesive with amazing stretch and rebound properties, SolutionsOpaque will not crack or peel. It can be used with solvent, eco solvent or thermo-resin print and cut systems and is specially formulated to work on dark colored garments.

Time:
5 seconds, peel COOL, cover and seal 5 seconds
Temperature: 305ºF / 152ºC
Pressure: Firm (#7) Based on Stahls’ Hotronix® Heat Presses
Comment: Preheat garment; Solutions™ mask required

Recommended fabrics:

• Lycra®/spandex
• Woven nylons
• Knit nylons
• 100% cotton
• 100% polyester
• Poly/cotton blends
• Fleece
• Mesh
• Vinyl
• Waterproof nylons
• Synthetic Leather
• Leather

As mentioned above, you are going to need to use a different decorating technique that can be cured at a lower temperature and the binders (adhesive) is designed for nylon. Most nylon bags are treated to be water resistant. Since your GT inks are waterbased, the two don't mix real well. In my experience, anything over 310 degrees F for 10 seconds will melt or distort the nylon bags. So you have to find a decorating technique that will 1) bind to the bags to give you the durability and 2) that can be cured at a lower temperature and time. Most people will decorate these bags using a heat applied vinyl or use a special type of screen printing ink - both of which suggestions are listed above.

Hope this helps clarify things. Best wishes,

Mark

I mostly use Stahl's superfilm, but have used other films also.
What bags you are using? I use the 8881 and 8882 drawstring bags from Liberty or Ultraclub, but have found lately that the bottoms split open and customers get a little upset when their stuff falls out of the bottom. I like these bags because of the thicker ropes. I started serging the bottoms, but I think it is sloppy and would rather not have to do the extra step.
Does anyone know of a similiar bag with this type of rope?

Thank you
