how many shirts "size wise" should i print? should i print more medium and large or should i ask a retail store where im from to help me out?
It really depends on who you are trying to market to. For example if you are making trendy colorful shirts for scene kids then you should stock more smalls and mediums. If you do MMA style shirts then large and XL and up would be your best bet.

What is the ideal number of shirts per design? I mean, I don't want to print too many shirts of the same design because the design might lose its novelty.
I don't think there is an ideal number. Some brands that do limited editions do 100, some do 50, some less, some more.

Many places just keep on printing the same design over and over as long as people want to buy it. The design doesn't lose novelty to new customers who are interested in it :)

I tried predesigned shirts when I first got into business, I quit about two years later. I spent more time with a retail sale to make 8 bucks when in the same amount of time I could have printed 50 or 60 shirts in the back of the shop making 2 to 3 bucks per shirt. The math did not add up. But as far as your question it all depends on your niche and marketing. Why would someone want your shirt? How do they know that you have those shirts to sell in the first place?
I do printing for a major distributor who sell his tees to retailers world wide. He has a warehouse that he keeps his tees in and stocks generally a case of small and med, two cases of large and xl, and half a case of xxl. He does not print 3xl at all (for stock anyway). He sells bulk orders
to the desired customer needs. I have printed the same design multiple times and this is the ratio he usually orders.

Don't forget about your budget. That was my biggest problem. I wanted 100s of each design I am printing up but funds prevented that. It gets expensive quickly. If you have faith in your designs..stock up on whatever you can afford. The more you buy, the cheaper they get.
