OK bought a new epson 1400 - it comes with standard selection of inks. Can it be used out of the box to print transparencies or do I need special inks or some feeder mechanism to deliver enough black ink to the film?

I have also heard about the need for rip software to get the best out of it so I suppose thats another set up question

If you are using waterproof film, you can use it right out of the box to print great films. Even without a rip. In the settings just be sure to choose best quality, and ultra premium glossy photo paper.
