Is this only used with white toner? Also can you only use this with a laser printer?
It depends on brand and what you're trying to do.

Yes, it can only be used with a laser printer. But not all no weed papers require white toner. Obviously if you want to print white, you need white toner.

The only paper that I'm aware of that is specifically made for white toner printers is Forever Laser Dark Low Temp. Other papers should work fine.

rather than create a similar new post i thought i'd jump onto this one as have a similar question.

I'm a garment printer but also print onto thick pre-cut card and rigid papers that cannot go through a printer which I use for my hang tags. Previously I used to use pcb toner transfer paper in a mono printer then heat press to release the toner from the paper so in theory it's exctly the same as self weeding paper. I made my own swing tags this way and they came out great. However, it has massive downsides in that the pcb paper isn't really suited for this. Half way through each toner, residue from the fuser begins to fix to the whole sheet of each print out so behing the design there is a slight hazy light black background which in turn whill come off with the print meaning that a clear design on a white background is never possible. It's strange in that the start of each new toner the print outs are really clear but get a dirtier background the more the toner is used. Also the pcb paper is very flimsy causing jams and often attaching itself around the fuser stickign to it which damages the printer. In a year I went through 5 printers because of this paper. That's when people were saying to find a better self weeding paper which is suitable for materials such as paper/card. I'm aware some brands make paper for garments and paper but I've yet to find one that is a single step process and within a decent price range.

I've been told about the image clip but after looking into it there are still issues people are experiencing with this paper and secondly it's a 2 step process and works out quite expensive.

I'm still on the look out for a suitable single step self weeding process specifically for card that is done through a laser printer and heat press but if inkjet self weeding transfers were available these would be suitable to.

Not quite understanding .....

Can you not print directly onto the hang tags via the laser? I regularly print heavy card stock through my OKI and have never experienced any issue. Also, the t-shirt transfer paper I use (Forever) is a heavy transparency / coated film and, again, never an issue.

As for using a laser transfer paper to print, I believe you're going to find them all cost prohibitive.

when i say thick card I'm taking about ultra thick that cannot bend and they are pre-cut in certain shapes so not full sheets of a4 size and even then would be too thick for a standard printer.

With regards to the forever transfer paper, I've looked into this and spoken to the brand directly but you need the latest Oki printer with white toner and there's no point me buying a new printer just for the sake of printing onto card.

Just to clarify, is the forever paper you use for Oki only printers and it is for garments only or a mixture of substrates as the light no cut forever paper which is a single step process is suitable for garments, paper, card etc but only Oki printers with white toner. They did say to me that it could work on an alternaive laser printer but they havn't tried it so I can't buy this pack of paper just to test incase it doesn't work.

I've never used the Forever laser light so I'm not sure about the need for a White toner printer.

That said, check out the Paropy line of transfer papers. I do use their CL TrimFree when I'm doing the "cheaper" white shirts for give-aways at such as 5k races, etc. It's very inexpensive, single step, and at least on fabric, has a decent durability.

That said, they also make papers for both laser and inkjet as well as hard surfaces. It looks like perhaps their Paropy CL for hard porous surfaces would work for you.

Here is their link

https://www.jotoimagingsupplies.com

But in the event the link is blocked - do a google search for Paropy CL Trim Free and you'll find it.

Good luck!

Really? So Imageclip Laser dark is not?

I've used Image Clip Laser Dark many times with a non-white toner printer. It's a standard OKI printer and the results have been just fine.

Just can't use it when white is in the image (unless the substrate is white).

For what you're describing, though, it would seem that you'd be looking for the lowest cost option. Image Clip Laser Dark is one of the most expensive papers on the market .... even more so than the Forever Low Temp.

Neenah ImageClip Dark - Heat Transfer Paper. Ideal For the OKI WHITE printer
paradigmprint, at least you are now aware that neenah imageclip laser dark works with white toner printers
although you should have received confirmation with the instructions in your Laser Dark pack,
or when you ordered, as i can't find any retailer that does not specifically mention this

they are only about $0.40 more for an 11x17
neenah holds a few patents on their papers that nobody can copy, so definitely worth doing a test with

i've only used their inkjet papers and they have always been top o' the heap in testing

Answering the wrong guy here ..... I was simply responding to the original poster. I've been using the Neenah Image Clip for both whites and darks for years, with and without the white toner printer.

To my knowledge, the only paper that is (supposedly) made for the white toner is Forever (though they include instructions for printing with CMYK printers).

and know Neenah ImageClip Laser Dark is made for white toner printers

here is another one for white toner from Joto:
Paropy CL TrimFree Dark is for color laser printers using white toner.
here is another one for white toner printers called ExactPrint

here is another one called Laser 1 Opaque
