I need some help deciding a technical style point for an Impressions article. The debate is about screen tension measurement. The author uses the familiar "N/cm" -- technical references tell me correct style is "N/cm2" (w/superscript 2 to indicate 'centimeters squared').
I'm also aware that hardly any U.S. printer uses the formal term. Everyone in the industry uses the shorthand "N/cm" and, in conversation, usually refers to screen tension in "Newtons".
Would I confuse readers by using N/cm2? Should I use (the technically incorrect) N/cm? Or am I cracked? (...which is entirely possible)
Thnx. Terry at Impressions magazine
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
