Just got my Barudan 7/13/2010, it came in this HUGE wooden crate (yes keep her safe). She was part of 5 boxes. My husband uncrated her yesterday and she's presently setting next to my other child - my Harley Fat Boy - they are getting to know each other.

Barudan training tech is coming and will be with me August 2 and 3 to train me. Of course he will help set it up, but that takes time away from my training so I want to have as much done as possible.

So can anyone give me some tips on initial set up?

Get some guys with muscle to help your hubby move the machine. It is heavier than you think. Get it set up on the stand and leveled (very important). It should be threaded so you can see the path the thread takes. When you need to change thread colors you can snip the thread on the machine close to the spool, tie on the new color and pull it through to the needle. You never have to completely re-thread the machine if you do it this way.
Oh, and recycle the wood from the crate. We gave the wood to my father-in-law (retired carpenter) and he had a lot of fun making stuff with it.
Congratulations on your new machine. You are going to love it.
