Re: hi there, newbie needing advice

Hello & welcome
I can't assist you about what method. I think e-bay is a bad idea, they have raised their prices etc, and there are loads of t-shirts already on sale on e-bay. I don't like e-bay much, kinda tacky to me.
I have not started making my designs yet, but I will start by using one of the print on demand compaines.
Have you decided what type of t-shirts you want to sell, humour, Political etc. There is so much competition out there.
Have you checkedout the featured threads ?.

Like Obeseman was saying you will have a hard time finding success on ebay unless maybe if you have a niche. As far as which method to use I would think just doing a 1 color screen print would be your best bet or maybe heat transfers but I don't really know much on pricing for that.

You can create words/phrases/names on the t-shirts with t-shirt vinyl. You load the t-shirt vinyl into a vinyl cutter and after it is cut, you use a heat press to apply the vinyl to the t-shirt.

If you use the search box at the top of the page, you can research which vinyl cutters are recommended, which t-shirt vinyl is recommended, which heat presses are recommended and where to buy them :)

All the information you need is available here and can be found by searching or reading the FAQ topics in the various forums that pertain to the type of t-shirt decoration you want to do:

If you have an inkjet printer, you can also buy inkjet transfer paper and print pictures onto the transfer paper and apply the transfer paper to the t-shirts with a heat press. You can also find information on that by reading more in the forums.

The way you market yourself will help out ALOT. I do use transfers for most of my works and find them to be quite beneficial. The other posters are quite correct in that there is alot of competion on ebay. What I have found using ebay is that there is usually alot of the same type shirts offered. If you feel you have a hook that would attract business then why not at least try it out? Don't bury yourself trying to milk business your just not getting but why not try it out? If I am understanding you correctly your wanting to use pictures on tees as well? I dont think that would work out so well with a 1 color screenprint. If it were me, I would look into heat transfers using jetprosofstretch paper for light colored garments. Heat transfers will give you the option of printing your images from a inkjet printer and applying. To me, since I use them it makes more sense to do it that way. I hope this helps you out

Ben, another option is to open a CafePress shop to sell your dog t-shirts. I'm not saying it's the best route, but you can get an idea if your designs will sell without making a huge investment in materials, equipment, etc.

if your thinking of setting up a store on eBay . . . personally I say . . go for it . . .
I dn't find eBay tacty at all . . however, you DO have to find your own NICHE on eBay now a days . . .

between eBay and Paypal . . your fee's are going to run about 15%

eBay is a household word and has been for a very very long time . . . .
I have been a member of Ebay ...going on 11 years . . . and I don't have all my eggs in one basket . .

I'm not as gunho on eBay as I use to be . .
but it still gives me a tool to direct my buyers to my websites and my other online stores, etc . . .

Use eBay as part of a advertisment tool . . . . .

you might want to look into eCrater.com as well . . eCrater is 100% free . . no listing fees and no FVFee's either . . just you propay or google or paypal fee's . . .

eCrater is growing by leaps and bounds . . .

also keep in mind . . buyers love FREE shipping . . so keep your price high enough to cover that cost as well . . .

once you get some feedback built . . buyers will see if your a trusted seller or not . . .

communication, shipping fee's, price of your item, and how fast you ship your orders . . .is more of what a buyer looks for --- even before they read the product description . . .

I still consider myself a newbie in the t-shirt world . . . there is always something new to learn . .
there is TONS of information on this forum (Thank you again Rodney) . . .
go with your gut feelings . . .

and good luck . . but most of all . . have fun doing it ;o)

Diane
;o}

*added note*~ . . this is just my opinion
