Newbie help--Best file format to print from?

2671 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  TheMerk
I recently purchased a GT 541. I am fairly new to this. My first print was from a jpeg and I noticed it was not very crisp. How do I go about fixing this?..Thanks in advance

hi nasties,

printing from a jpg should be fine, but you must be sure that the resolution is high enough. what brother recommended to me was minimum 150dpi at actual size print. also, RGB is a better color mode than CMYK for digital prints. RGB allows you to saturate your colors and get more vibrant prints.

just be sure when accepting jpg files that it's not a low res image. that's probably the reason your print came out fuzzy.

you can print just about any format to the brother, but i prefer working with raster files (like jpgs) rather than vector files. i feel i have better color control using a program like photoshop and not illustrator.

hope this info helps!
okay-thanks for the help.
How do I choose the RGB option to print in?
72 dpi and 300 look no different on the 541

in photoshop go to Image>Mode>RGB

sorry, i do not agree.

if you take a little 72 dpi image and blow it up to 14", it's going to look much worse than a high resolution image.
ok Agree to disagree :)
The Brother has a theoretical resolution of 600dpi. Anything over 150dpi usually looks good.

Note that what you are printing on has a BIG effect on the final resolution. Because the wet ink bleeds, each fiber in the fabric usually ends up as a single colour at that point. So if you are using fabric that only has 100 threads per inch, you won't see much difference in anything over 100dpi.

So you are both right!
