Hello,

I am newbie and have got a few good designs to be used on ties.
My problem is I'm on a tight budget and haven't got many choices.

I thought about buying a heat press (40x50cm). I checked the forum to find out what to look for.
Initially I was going to buy a heat press on ebay but this might not be a good idea.
So I checked recomended here on the forum places and:

the best option for now is:
£938.83 (vat incl) Hotronix® MAXX Heat Press 40x50cm as advertised here:
Hotronix® MAXX Heat Press | Target Transfers

then there are some Adkins models:
£925 (vat excluded) Heat Press 38 x 50cm (15 x 20") - XP7006A
Xpres Presses

and the same price here:

The Magic Touch (GB) Ltd - Manual Heat Transfer Press, Manual Clam Press
Those heat presses have even good reviwies:
http://www.t-shirtforums.com/heat-press-heat-transfers/t4244.html

I relaised that for a good heat press I will have fork out about £1000.
Then Epson R1400 printer and ink and paper about £300-400.

So I need about £1,5k for a start.

However if I went for this simple screen printing starter:
Screen Printing Floor Standing Flash Curer Dryer Unit on eBay (end time 30-Aug-10 10:49:12 BST)

What do you think?

Sublimation is out of my price range.

What would you recommend to a newbie?
Can I use heat transfers for my one color designs?

Cheers,
Simon

You can actually get a good press with less than that. plus some transfers to make shirts. i suggest imageclip transfers for inkjet. you will need both an inkjet and laserjet printer. plus you can probably get a good brand new hix press for WAY less than that. i think they are about $250-$300 (£153.16 to £183.79) i am not 100% sure about the conversion. plus the transfers are quite cheap. but the dark 1s are about 6x more. alnog with the transfers, press, and printers you will need. What u read wasnt true. You dont rlly NEED a press that expensive just to start. The mroe expensive ones last longer but you dont need it.
Simon, I think that's just for the flash dryer - the heater unit for curing screen printed shirts. I don't think it's for the carousel.

I have read before about ImageClip transfers and it requires laser printer. But why do you suggest to buy an inkjet one too? you mean to use it with softstretch?
