Hi there,

I'm kinda new to screen printing, but know the process well enough to start on my own.

I don't want to be using emulsions etc, mainly because of the cost, also I don't have any dark room etc.

I'm wanting to just get my screen, place a stencil, and print my shirts.

I am thinking of ordering an aluminium screen with the following specs: Size:
A2 32" X 20"
mesh count:
43t 110us

I'm also ordering the following:
Black Standard Plastisol Textile Screen Printing Ink
Silk screen squeegee wooden 65 to 90shore (I got the 11" one)

Before I check out, should I get anything else to print on t shirts? (already got t shirts)

I'm mainly going to be printing text and threshold images. Would what I have be ok?

You need the book that I believe it's called, "screen printing for fun and profit" it will tell you exactly what you need. You could get that stuff because you will need it, but there is a lot to screen printing. You need some way to cure the ink after you print, something to clean your screen after your done(ink, and emulsion/cap film). You need emulsion or capillary film for your screens. And the list goes on depending on how much you want to get into it, and how well you want your end product.

Read that book front to back, it will answer most your question as well give you tips on what you can use instead of actual screen printing equipment... like curing shirts in your kitchen oven for example

Thanks! Will try get my hands on that book.

I don't want to start using emulsions etc, as I stated in my first post, only due to costs.

Instead of Plastisol Inks, is it better to use Water based inks - they just fix with a hot iron on reverse side.

See: 500ml Textile Screen Printing Ink - Individual Colours & Sets | eBay

Is this water based?

I'm really only going to do my shirts in batches of 5-10, and want them machine washable.

Thanks.

Hey

I'm kinda in the same boat as you and I always get an emulsion set. It comes with instructions and will usually result in better quality prints. Here is a link Speedball Photo Emulsion Kit: Amazon.co.uk: Toys & Games

If you go for emulsion you would need a pretty strong lamp for the exposure parts.

But if you mean you want to literally place your stencil on your tshirt and place a silk screen on top, i'm not sure how well that will work. You wouldn't really need anything else I guess.
