Hello,

I am brand new to starting a clothing line with mainly just t-shirts for now. Currently we have the artist, the type of t-shirt we want to use and then reading the forums I am not sure what type of printer or what style of printing to do. The t-shirt we want to use is the 50-50 (poly-cotton) tshirt because of the fit and the vintage look to it. Also we are looking for a tagless tshirt that we can put our own brand name on with printing on the inside.

So first question is which type of printer and style of printing is most preferred? As far as I know the cost of the printer doesn't matter so any thoughts from the cheapest to the most expensive. (I have been reading the forum and theres so many different opinions.)

Since we are looking for a non branded tshirt, is there a website that will provide us for this? One of us is going on a business trip to China and might look around if we have the time but rather buy US.

Any opinions are welcome, Thanks in advance!

hey there,

There is going to be mainly 3-5 colors per shirt of characters with a fair amount of detail. Mainly will be white shirts but also will print on color and probably 50-60 pieces per design.

And would it be best to get two printers if i am doing mainly whites with some color?

Thanks for taking the time freshlysqueezed.

okay well you don't want tagless shirts cuz that just means the logo like hanes is screen printed on you want like tearaway...

The cheapest way for you to do white would be a heat press probally 16x16 epson 1400 from cobra ink..(conceled ciss) filled with pigment jpss from costal biz..... 1-2 thousand this would only allow for white shirts this is better for lower production of each design

Mid range would be a 6 color press with micro and flash dryer probally around 4-5 thousand This would be for high production of each design... its alot more work and alot of lining up...

Next would be dtg you can do photo quality printing as many colors as you need on any type of shirt.. but the investment is very high 18 thousand plus

Also if you went with the heat press you could get custom plastoil transfers done if you ever needed to do dark shirts

Thanks for the detailed info on the printers, I will definitely research that tomorrow and might have some questions.

When I was asked to find pricing as many other things, there were a couple things that were a must; 1. a shirt that doesn't shrink and fits well, so I showed my friend the 50-50 and was hooked 2. hates the idea of tags (he doesn't own one shirt with a tag on it) so hes all for printing on the inside of the shirt.

With this short story, can you point me where to get tag-less shirts non-branded shirt? Most sites have only branded shirts. How much is in a crate? (And yes I have a good amount of space for inventory.)

Sorry, I wasn't asking for pricing, I was just saying that's what my role in this clothing line we are trying to start. Im basically head of research and development.

I was mainly focusing on the number of shirts that come in a crate and where can I go for a 50-50 shirt that has no brand on it.

Thanks fresh, I have been looking around and think I might start with the starter kit but my eye is on the T-Jet 2 i think is the one. Where you can print on the shirt. The idea of skipping all the transfer paper and everything is ideal to me and its half of what DTGs go for.

What do you think about the T-Jets?

The information on the tags are required by law. So you won't find any blank suppliers that offer shirts completely void of any tagging.

JS Apparel and Bare Apparel offer shirts with the labels in the side seam, so the center neck is blank and ready for your screen printed label (or transferred or sewn if you prefer).

TSC Apparel offers relabeling when you purchase from them. Perhaps other suppliers are offering it as well. Just contact any supplier you want to use and ask what relabeling services they offer.

Many suppliers offer products with tear-away labels so that they can be easily removed and replaced with your label.

Another option would be a private label program. This is where the blank supplier manufactures shirts from scratch with your labels in them. It usually requires a high volume order to do this though.

If you do relabel garments, it's a good idea to read up on the laws and requirements. This is a great resource of info: Threading Your Way Through the Labeling Requirements Under the Textile and Wool Acts

Hope this helps and good luck with your clothing line!
