I have just started using the new Joto trimless paper to produce printed t-shirts. I have been printing shirts digitally with various transfer papers for over 5 years and this paper seems to represent a major breakthrough for us. We save a lot of time by not having to trim around logos and we can print on a bunch of light colored shirts. My first 100 or so shirts have come out beautifully, and we are in awe.
I am interested in other's views who may have tried this new paper.
not sure there is a difference...except that trimless with this paper is about digital printing and self weeding may be a term relating to vinyl cutting
Fairly new here and just trying to make sure I get this. So, If I understand this correctly, does this eliminate the need to have the contour cutting feature on a vinyl cutter? If so, this is awesome.
This paper is for laser and for white or light colored fabrics only.
However, sometimes you can apply to darker colors (not black) if you make your graphic black. It's similar to black vinyl onto colored fabrics but no weeding needed. Here is a photo of a black only graphic onto a red shirt.
What I have seen pictures that are posted are spot color. How is it with gradient, light color and photo artwork? I am asking because Imageclip for laser does not work with those types of artwork.
Laser has more vivid and a bit more opaque toner compared to inkjet translucent ink. First and formost laser has no clogging issue. Inkjet printer does which is very costly, time consuming and money wasted on ink (Cleaning cycles) plus ruined transfers. Laser has no bleeding as well. In MHO laser is more durable than inkjet.
Will that be the transfers on shirts? If that is the case, could the "adhesives" on the paper be more durable or are is it a toner versus inkjet thing?
Really depends on the type of paper you use. There are inkjet papers that are as good as the laser papers.
This TrimFree paper is for graphics and not photos.
However there are laser papers for photos. Some people like laser paper simply because the cost is normally less. Toner cartridge normally lasts several times longer than an inkjet cartridge.
If the main issues is cost, then the best option would seem to be a CIS with dependable inks together with good transfer papers.
