I've been having two issues with the transport on my epson 4880. The transport keeps stopping at various points along the bed when I send the printer forward and I have to turn it on and off to get it to move again. Another issue its having is that when I send the printer forward and when its about to reach the back end of the bed, the transport slows down a bit right before speeding up and slamming to the back end missing the stopping point where the sensor is at. I usually have to turn it off and manually push it back to where the back end sensor is at, although sometimes it does come to the home positon after I turn it on and off.
Any idea what might be causing this?

Check the sensors at each end to see if they are working. Put a credit card in-between them and you should see a red light.
Have you cleaned the long screw and lubricated it? Also are the rails clean the printer moves on? A good cleaning and some silicone spray might help.
It could be the 15 pin cable that runs from the base to the sub board (the cable in the black plastic chain).

Hi, NeoFlexExpert here, authorized tech. Your drive shaft (threaded rod) is sticking, probably due to dust/ink/goo. Use soap/hot water mix and tooth brush to clean shaft 100%, also clean point that connects to printer slide. You can also use alcohol to remove any residue. Do not use oil!
