thanks - for the compliments - After creating this site I was asked to create another and here it is - www.brinkleyink.com

cool thing about this was they let me create everything from the logo to graphics and they made no changes - pretty fun -

I'm a screen print artist but think I've found my second love - website design....

I'd like to see some of your sites and here some comparables - always wanting to improve!

I need a Mike Holmes critique-lol:)

You Need to add a Home Page button.

I would change the font in the banner in the upper right hand corner. Looks generic. Make it a graphic type.

Other than those two things, its a great start for somebody who has not designed a website before!!

Thanks for checking out my site - I could , if needed, change the about page to home - the home (landing page is the about page) which can be confusing - good point!

As for the upper right text - It is a graphic(technically) but yeah i could have chosen a cooler font due to the fact it is a graphic but opted not to cause i wanted it to match the other text - I did run across a cool site called typekit which allows you to use nonstandard fonts on sites and maintain accessibility by all visitors and might change it when I change the other fonts but for now think it does a good job drawing attention by contrast -thats what i was going for - contrast.......thanks for the feedback...

I did this site for my employer while we were slow - anyone know or have an idea what a site like the one I designed might cost - Just curious?

I thinking about creating a niche website design company that focuses strictly on screen printing industry since I have a passion for the industry and know it better than anything I feel I might can provide easier solutions for screen printers as they try and expand their online presence - even though I have more years of webdesign training and a learning curve ahead I see myself doing it no matter what.

what would you pay - if you did pay someone what does it look like - please provide a link - thanks

please be brutally honest even if you'd only pay a few bucks - but try and be realistic...

Hi Nexus,

I think you did a great job. I was wondering what you charge to design a site? I am about to launch my line of childrens tees and need a website. I am waiting for my logo to be finished and have a few loose ends to tie up and will be ready to launch. Please let me know what your fee would be if you are interested in designing a t-shirt website. I know that you stated you want to specialize in screen printing sites, so just wondering if you would be interested.

thanks Sarah - I'm working on finishing two sites this week . I'd love the opportunity to work with you and appreciate the consideration. You can email me at [email protected] with info pertaining to what you would like the site to do - I'll provide my contact info via email and we can try and find a reasonable price/budget for project.... thanks

Very nice. I have two suggestions for both sites.

1. Take the logo or the most significant portion of the logo and convert it into an ico file and put it on the server. The browser will recognize this and use it just to the left of the URL. If you look up now, you will see the t-shirt forums logo there. That's what I mean. It adds a nice touch. You can use a site like Online ICO converter or any other site you find to convert another type of file to ico. I found that site through Google.

2. You should look into the meta tag for keywords so you can add keywords for both sites.

--- specifically for www.brinkleyink .com ---

You are using the <title> tag like the meta keywords instead of a title tag. You currently have "brinkley ink , brinkley inc., screen printing, embroidery, t-shirts, athens al". The title is what shows up on the top of the browser window and is the default when adding to the browser favorites. I recommended changing the title to "Brinkley Ink, your source for screen printing and embroidery in Athens, Alabama". This way it has the important terms in it, but it is more human friendly when people view it.

still want feedback?
if so, I think there isn't enough contrast in the grey text/box areas, like for "art quick view"

No problem! And I'm in the process if a complete new site design for the same reason, though my brother is taking the lead on this one. I want to keep content fresh, and a good CMS is the only way to do that. More photo for me, but same idea.

I would recommend using wordpress as a cms - great search ability and out of the box serve as a better approval process for clients - password protect pages and inline comments and approvals are default options and built into wordpress - also site searchability and ability to easily create custom forms for clients is awesome - I'm currently looking into creating custom post types and custimizing the loop and needless to say - it is strangly addictive! Once done I'd like to view your site and perhaps allow you to try mine - thanks again!
