Pulling my hair out here. Been screen printing and transfer paper for quite awhile. Figured we would buy a sublimation printer to play with. So we bought a new epson 7110 off amazon. Waited two weeks for it. Set it up friday. Printed one paper with the carts it came with. Put in refillable carts and sub ink. Carts are 19.99 carts off ebay from Continuous bulk ink supply systems The original first picture printed fine on regular paper. Then swapped carts and has gone downhill ever since. Start with some banding and turn light gray sometimes and then more banding. I made squares that were 0C 0M0Y100K all the way to 100c100m100y100k. Now i put the orignal epson carts back in and it is no better after ever head cleanings and printing full page pictures. what am i missing? We haven't even tried to print on the sublimation paper yet and we installed the profile for the ink. So far its just the black giving me issue.
Thanks

Dye sub ink must be heated/pressed to see the real color.

Your colors will always seam to be off and dull, till you get used to it.
Once you press it to a substrate it will look much brighter and the colors should be correct (assuming your using a good ICC profile for your ink/printer combo).
Sorry, i should have been more clear, it is acting as if it has a clogged head. Which is doubtful, since it is new. It has turned to black having a few horizontal lines that show up while printing a large square and does not print 25% of a nozzle check pattern.

Do a couple head cleanings and see how it is after.

Put in your OEM carts and do a nozzle check, if not clear then do a head clean or 2.

If you can get good nozzles then likely your refillable carts aren't primed properly and has air inside.

One of the first things that cause new users grief is that clogged nozzles and poor vacuum (lack of prime) all cause the same symptom ... banding or missing colors.

Your cart supplier should have given you priming instructions.

Thanks for your help. Prior to posting I had already switched back to the carts that came with printer thinking possibly it was an issue with ref. carts. I run ref. carts in my 7610 without issue with cobra inks pig dye. After sheet after sheet of head cleaning and printing full color pages with the factory carts, I threw in the towel and contacted tech support. Who ran me through some tests. They promptly sent me a return label and refunded my money. Now question is do I get another 7110 or 7610. Same cost. My 7610 has not had any issue since I ran wic reset on it to get rid of cartridge reset.
Thanks everyone for their help and time.

The 7610 is a 7110 with a scanner. So Epson sometimes has these on promo as the same price as the 7110. Both print engines and heads are the same.

The 7610 at that price, is a better value, and no difference in performance or quality.

If you have a use for a scanner or fax the 7610, but otherwise they are the same printer. I do like the screen on the 7610/7620's better. The menu is easier to see and navigate IMO then the 7110's.
There is a difference between the two. 7110 has two paper trays. 7610 has one.

To get 2 trays on the one with a scanner you'll need the 7620.

If I had a choice between 7110 and 7610/7620 I would get the 7110 because it's less bulky.
Hope you went 7610 since you already have one that works.

Sorry for the late reply. I misplaced my password so i could not respond. I actually ended up with WF-7720 for my sublimation printer in the end. Running Cobra carts and Cobra inks. They take the cartridges as the 7610/20, 7110. I am utilizing the profiles for the 7620. It seems like a very sound printer and have not ran into single jam yet and prints very nicely. The menu is more user friendly than the 7610. I will continue running a 7610 as my pigment printer. To set up the 7720 I inserted the cobra carts first at initialization and the printer took it from there. I never loaded the Initial carts. I printed several pages on the printer and have yet to have an unrecognized cartridge (knock on wood). The 7610 happened quite regularly until I wicreset it. Thanks for everyones assistance. You all have a wonderful day.
