I am a newbie to vinyl cutting heat transfers. When I cut some small lettering 1" x 1/2" it sometimes will not stay on the backing. Is there some trick to make the smaller pieces stay on the backing(in the correct position) until I can get it to the press? Sometimes when i flip the transfer over onto the garment some vinyl cut letters fall off and it's impossible to position them back properly. Do I just press the design twice? once with the part that stays on the backing then reposition the pieces directly on the shirt, that fell off and re-press?

I use eco-film which has a sticky mylar and the only time I have this problems is when I need to change the blade.

What kinda of vinyl are you using? Does it have a sticky mylar? Maybe you cutting too deep-trying backing off the force a little to see if it helps.

the easiest way is to remove the inside of letters first (e.g. the inside of the e). then when weeding use a pick tool or exacto tip to hold the letter down while you pull the excess away. also you can try cutting around the small areas with an exacto blade then go back and weed them carefully. you might want to fool around with the blade depth and speed. I have found that the "cheaper" blades do not work nearly as well as roland brand blades.
