Hello all, I hope Im posting in the right place.

I have an Epson 1400 with a Pigment CISS, and I just refilled the ink. I am getting lines in my prints so I did a nozzle check and then a head cleaning. My check came out fine but my prints still had lines going through them. So I did a print head alignment. Still problems. The I noticed that the light was flashing while printing and it says to reset the chips. And for models newer than 07 it says to remove the cartridges to reset. What exactly do they mean by that? Cause when I went to remove them the cartridge ran down to the other side.

Thanks in advance for any help...

According to InkSupply.com the quick reset chips on the newer Epson printers will automatically reset to full when you remove them from the printer, fill them, and replace them in the printer. If you do not fill them the printer will think they are full and you will run out of ink in the middle of the job.

I haven't had this happen but have you tried the nozzle alignment utility to make sure the nozzles are aligned. It may not be noticable in the nozzle check.

Go to the Epson support website and see what they say.
Yeah I did, I think Im gonna take the cartriges out and clean the heads.

Thanks for your reply...

With most CIS systems for the Epson 1400 you have to remove all the cartridges at the same time to reset the chip on one cartridge because they are all tied together (at least most that I've seen are that way), the printer does have an encoder strip as FatKat mentioned, it runs from left to right above the drive belt for the carriage....we had a similar problem with horizontal lines in the print from ours and it was the print mode we were using, (ie draft, photo, best photo) sometimes the paper options has the same effect also.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jon, I took out all of the cartridges and wiped everything down a couple hours ago. I am going to go put it back in soon but have a few shirts to screen print as well. I will let you guys know how it's printing tomorrow.

Thanks again for all of your guys input, Bill
