I am sure this is listed somewhere but cannot find it. I am trying to start working with patches. I have narrowed down that I can buy the twill material from Stahls but I am not sure what type I need to purchase. I do not have a merrow machine so I will be doing a satin stitch border. I have seen the coleman materials showing how to burn out the patches with a wood burning tool. I need to make sure the material I purchase will work with this method. I didn't like the shiny material they use. Am I correct with this process? From what I have found I can stitch my design and burn out the design to make the edges smooth and complete.

Also, backing with the twill or no? The sample patch they gave me is pretty stiff. Is there something that makes these patches stiff?
