im from California and their are a lot of tshirt makers in the middle of the mall, with pop up stores. they cut vinyl with their cutter and already have designs. It seems like they all have similar designs. where can you get those ? any ideas ? please help as I would like to start with simple designs

clip art.

also if they have a heat press i'm sure they have a bunch of stock transfers that people can choose from.

How do they get that crispy print (the colors are vibrant) I have a cutter, what kind of paper is used in the printing process before putting in the cutter? Printer type? Thanks hope to hear from you?
well with a single color clip art design you will have to cut on the cutter. you can't have anything to intricate as it'll take you time to weed. you'd want to have this done before setting up that day for biz. the cutter is more for custom tee shirts where someone will come up and ask for 3 shirts saying we love kenny or something basic like that.

the transfers are pre-printed. you would have a book where the customer picks out the design (or maybe a wall with the designs hung up on). they say i want design number 4 on a yellow xlarge tee, you get it from your stock and heat press it right there.

here's a company that sells stock transfers (as an example):

Iron-On Transfers | Heat Transfers | T-shirt Transfer Press Machines
Would you maybe suggest a good printer with high quality when printing? And any specific paper to print on?
What about pre-printed sublimation or screen print designs? Like the royal corture shirts, the really cute girly t-shirts everyone is wearing? Sorry I'm kind of new at this too & was just trying to see what's available.

anything epson. and you would want to get a large format printer that prints at least 13" x 19". there are sections of this forum dedicated to heat press and materials used. i'd ask there for what paper people like nowadays as they are always coming out with new stuff.

The favorite used to be Jet Pro Soft Stretch.

this is of course for light colored garments. i would really stay away from doing ink jet transfers for darks as the finished product feels like a piece of plastic on your tshirt when done.

yeah the shirts you are talking about are all licensed by the manufacturer. they design and screen printed their own line of shirts. what the OP is talking about is selling custom made shirts on the spot which would be done doing cut vinyl designs, inkjet transfers and stock transfers (where he can purchase from distributor like art brands) heat applied to the shirt using a heat press.

what you might want to do if coming up with your owndesigns for a line of tshirts is look into custom plastisol transfers. there is ANOTHER section dedicated to that as well.

Heat Press and Heat Transfers - T-Shirt Forums

this is where you are the designer (using design software such as illustrator, photoshop or coreldraw) send the printer you files, they print plastisol transfers for you, you heat press onto shirts.

Thanks for the reply! I love this forum everyone is always so helpful!

I am just starting out as a business (kinda) lol. I'm starting to get calls from friends, family, friends of family & friends. I've been playing around with my screen printer for a little while off & on, but I've really been wanting to make my own pretty designs, and possibly something for men. Nothing big just for local people, I guess for the time.

Guess I need to start brushing up on some good tips to design on Illustrator.

Thanks again for the info!:)

women's stuff (from what i've seen) is a little more carefully thought out. sweet and classy at the top of the spectrum and then at the bottom of that spectrum you have the lines of clothing that are based on sex......you know the underwear with certain sayings on them. (ugh).

come up with a theme and try to stick to certain designs based on that theme. the name of the line really doesn't have to mean anything but make it catchy.

i always like to look around at the new trends of what the younger (than me) people are wearing as they are prob the biggest market to go after when you're talking about doing tshirts.

here's a site i like to buy shoes and tees from:

this is the women's tees:

Plndr - Clothing. Accessories. Plunder.

then check out the men's.
