Hey guys a band I know would like me to print this on black, I am sort of unsure where to even begin. It seems like there are so many values and shades. Would it be as simple as a halftone image?

here's the image

thanks for helping out a guy that is new to screen printing!!

Sure it's possible with just halftoning one color, maybe white darkened with some red and black, but it won't look as good. I think at least 2 colors should do it, one a lighter shade than the other, with the darker acting as your base so you get a nice, clean fade-out effect.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still a huge noob and any advice is super helpul. Should I use color seperation software?

If you are a relatively inexperienced printer, using a separation application can be akin to having no flight training and putting the plane on auto-pilot.

A good solid working knowledge and understanding of every aspect of screen printing from art creation and separation to print set up and technique is suggested. It's not particularly daunting but it does take patience and time and in the long run will save a lot of frustration and headache.

The image looks like it would be a discharge print (particulary considering the growing preference for soft hand).
